Davidson's most acclaimed fantasy, telling the story of an alchemist Virgil Magus' quest to create a "virgin speculum," a magic mirror that had never reflected a human's face, and his quest to rescue the beautiful princess shown there. Pringle, Modern Fantasy 100 #43. Recommended. Not a difficult book, but nice copies are not as common as they used to be.
