This text was commissioned by the Institute of Pacific Relations, in May of 1932, with the goal of studying and reporting on the conditions of the South Sea Islands under Japanese mandate; to determine the extent of economic and social development under Japanese administration compared to the prior German regime. Red cloth boards, gilt tiles to spine. 312 pp., including index, fold-out map before page 1, tables throughout. Condition: Gilt to spine intact but somewhat faded, corners are slightly bumped, minor scuffing to covers. Fold-out map is fine, text block is tight, "Bureau of International Relations" stamps to half-title and title pages. A very good copy of this pre-WWII text.

A collection of very nice early photos of California and The West from the late 1800's, a special focus on Yosemite, but many of Oregon, Utah, and destinations in California. Dark green cloth boards, blind debossed designs on the front board and the Great Seal of California on the rear board. 10 leaves, publisher's ad as rear pastedown. Measures 7 1/2" by 5 5/8". Overall very good. Small stains to front and rear boards, edgewear, corners bumped and rubbed, hinges are sound, the photos and text are clean.

Written and initially received as science, Warren posits the North Pole as the source of all life, simultaneously Eden and Atlantis. A contemporary review in Science notes that "The book is very ingenious and learned, but, as it seems to us, conceived and written in the spirit of advocacy rather than in the true scientific spirit. .Yet we believe the book may be read with profit, even by the scientific anthropologist". Green cloth covers, wear and loss of cloth to corners, head and tail, worn patches on both joints. Previous owner's name in pencil on flyleaf, in pen on title page.
