Description:
Buffalo: D. Ransom, Son & Co., 1901. Sewn binding. Orange illustrated wraps, with original string. Very good. 32 pages. 16.5 x 10 cm. An almanac with recipes along with advertisements for products such as Dr. Trask's Magnetic Ointment (lard, raisins, cut in pieces, and fine-cut tobacco, simmered together, pressed and strained), and fraudster "testimonials". These pamphlets were all the rage before the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906 put an end to the prolific practice of sham health products (not really, we still have them). The Ransom family business was started by Dr. David Ransom, in Buffalo NY, and later taken over by his sons. These almanac pamphlets were distributed yearly from 1874-1923. Rear cover printed: sold by J.M. Clarkl, Jr., South Middleboro, Mass. Dry Goods, Groceries. Covers lightly rubbed at spine, interior clean

New York: THE CENTER FOR BOOK ARTS, 2016. First Edition. Paperback. Color photo illustrated wraps. Fine. Unpaginated. 13.5 x 22 cm. Exhibition Catalog. Queering the BibliObject, organized by John Chaich, independent curator, was an exhibition that focused on contemporary lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer artists appropriating the book as an object through sculpture, installation, drawing, or photography as a vehicle for self-expression. These artists utilize the book as an action for 'queer' manifestation and materialization, both by violating heteronormative customs and by being "unusual' in itself. Illustrated throughout. Pristine.
