Internally there is a little toning and spotting to the half of the front and rear free endpapers not covered by the dust jacket but otherwise the book is clean and bright and without marks or inscriptions. [Gilson E28] An ex-library book this has the remains of a label on the spine, a presentation note on the front paste down indicating that the book was presented to the Warren Public Library by Mrs George D Hastings of New York City. There is also a Warren Public Library stamp dated 1876 on the first page of Sense and Sensibility. The boards have a little marking but are generally in very good condition noting only the label on the spine and a 1.5 cm split on the upper joint at the head of the spine. Addressed on the verso and having, in another hand, "Fredk. Marryat / Rec'd 4th March 1828". Mark from a wax seal on the verso and a small hole on the corresponding piece that folds across it. A red postal stamp also on the verso. Small chip and partial paperclip mark at one corner. Provenance: Folder by Documents and Autographs Ltd, 6 Stratford Place, W1. with their printed and typed label on the back, showing stock number "Doc. 2683", and "Captain Marryat 1792 - 1848" in gilt to the top fore edge corner of the front cover.
