Description:
Japan, Scroll Painting, E-maki E-maki or scroll painting is a peculiar form of painting to develop a story by successive scenes that appear one after another as the scroll is unrolled from right to left. The original was probably painted in the twelfth century by a buddhist painter who was a master of the brush. This scroll is a set of three hand rolls illustrating three legends relating to the shigisan temple. The scroll is in a box sized 5 1/2 in long and almost 2 in high. The scroll is in very good condition.. The scroll comes with an explanation in english and japanese.. Very Good.

The title of the collection is "The story of the Ferry" being an account of the ferry between dobbs ferry, westchester co, New York and Snedens landing . 3 sets only of the papers were prepared and sent to the Palisades library, the national library and the state library in albany. 16 of the illustrations are given with the index and are detailed by the author and are awesome. This volume is # 2 of the 12 copies prepared and sent to several libraries in rockland county and of bergen county. This particular book was deaccessioned from the the New Jersey Historical society.
