The inner pocket holds 4pp. short descriptions of eleven scenes drawn by Retzch, each illustrated full page in black and white and bound with string.(Lacking illustration No. 7.) A final page is publisher's advertising. Condition: Good Plus. Contents have some wear and folded edges. Illustrations are bright, with a bit of light foxing toward margins. Exterior folio is slightly soiled and faded but remains reasonably attractive for its age. The Cotta publishing concern had exclusive rights to publish the works of Schiller and Goethe during this period. This mid-career volume was published in the same period she was regularly contributing to titles such as Atlantic Monthly, The Century Magazine and The Lippincott Magazine. Her family entertained various Roosevelt relatives at their Adirondak summer house. Later, she would publish more patriotic verse in response to WWI. Condition: Very Good Plus.
