Deals with Admiral William Penn (1621-70) including his naval career under Cromwell in the Civil war and Anglo-Dutch wars, he was also an MP, and devised the naval tactic of fighting in line. The author's autobiography, he was born in 1948 with cerebral palsy which affected his legs. He was in a wheelchair aged ten after experimental surgery, but taught himself to walk again. Once he was mobile, he took up fishing, then fellwalking, sailing, and rock-climbing, eventually climbing Kala Pattar in the Himalayas in 1988. Signed by the author on title page "To ....
