New York: Random House, 1973. First Edition (stated) . Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Bound in mustard boards backed with black cloth; 181 pages. The second "Nameless" detective novel. The boards are faintly sunned along the upper edge, otherwise a fine copy in a dust jacket with a sunned spine and front panel border, which turned the orange yellow or faded it entirely (see photos). Hinges solid; binding square. A clean, tight, unmarked copy. The jacket is now in mylar.

The boards carry a leaf pattern in slate-blue and gray; the spine titles are stamped in gilt. Corresponding 1948 dates to the title and copyright pages; no additional printings (this date also appears on the dust wrapper). Volume I of a three-volume set, which incorporated the art and poetry of Scandinavia (Norway, Denmark and Sweden). Contents include architectural history, painting, sculpture, theater, poetry and music. Bookplate of Norwegian-American collector Herman Gimmestad to the front pastedown, otherwise unmarked. The cloth shows only a hint of edgewear. The dust wrapper has light edgewear with three short closed tears (1/4" or less); no chips; not price-clipped. Bound in printed boards backed with black cloth. 1889 date to the front cover and title page; no additional printings. 44 pages. Ex-library from Gale College, with the later bookplate of Norwegian-American collector Herman Gimmestad, whose father, Lars, had been president and professor at Gale during his career. Remainder of small sticker to the front cover, library stamps to the front free endpaper and the last page of the text, call numbers inked neatly to the title page. The bookplate is present on the front pastedown. The boards show moderate edgewear with a 2" crease near the lower edge of the front cover. Hinges solid; binding square. Contents only faintly toned, with no foxing. Clean and tight. Benson was an immigrant Norwegian poet; his works are now quite scarce, as are the publications of Markus & Kalheim.
