Description:
New York: Farrar, Straus & Giroux, The Noonday Press, 1997. Second printing. Paperback. Very Good. Beautiful black & white photographs of German and Eastern European Jews in the years immediately preceding the Holocaust. Roman Vishniac, a Russian Jew, started taking photographs of village life during World War I. He later moved to Germany and witnessed Kristallnacht and the anti-Jewish legislation that allowed Hitler to declare his enemies stateless and therefore unworthy of international protection. Vishniac's photographs, only a small fraction of the 16,000 he took, show us the faces of people soon to die, a world that has vanished. His photographs are beautiful, and haunting. Book is in very good condition with some shelf wear, bumping to the edges. There is a personal inscription on the inside of the front cover and the price on the back cover is crossed out with pen. The pages are clean and binding tight.

Description:
New York: St. Martin's Paperbacks, 1994. Later printing. Paperback. Very Good. Through a thousand miles of dust, fists, and guns, they found the courage to keep on driving. The only riches Texans had left after the Civil War were five million maverick longhorns and the brains, brawn and boldness to drive them north to where the money was. Now, Ralph Compton brings this violent and magnificent time to life in an extraordinary epic series based on the history-making trail drives. With a dream of building a ranching empire in Montana, Nelson Story sets off on one of the most extraordinary journeys in frontier history. By his side was a bunch of misfits and renegades-hard-fighting, war-bitten Texans with nothing left to lose. On his tail as the worst kind of enemy-brutal outlaws fixing to bleed his trail drive dry. Pushing his way through four harsh territories and three brutal seasons, Story would defy the Union Army, get a hold of a hundred Remingtons, and take on a thousand riled-up Sioux warriors,…

Description:
New York: Minotaur Books, 2009. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/fine. Prussia has been overrun by Napoleon’s forces, and the Emperor’s troops have discovered a new source of funds there: enough amber to finance France’s wars. But their plans stall when the girls who collect the stones begin to disappear, only to be found gruesomely disfigured by an unknown killer. The French call upon Prussian investigator Hanno Stiffeniis, who must seek out the culprit knowing hat his own success may doom his country’s future. Dark, intelligent, and vividly written, A Visible Darkness continues a masterful series of historical mysteries that portray a past torn between nationalism and humanism, superstition and science."Upon finishing this third mystery featuring nineteenth-century Prussian magistrate Hanno Stiffeniis, readers are likely to give thanks for modern medicine and hygiene. As a serial killer methodically hacks and slices his (or her) way along the Amber Coast of the Baltic Sea, Gregorio takes…

Description:
Reader's Chair, 1998. Audio Cassettes. Very Good. "Maybe audiobook reviewers who accept only unabridged books condemn themselves to hearing relatively few first-rate readers. Perhaps excellence is rare everywhere. For this reviewer, it is rare enough to be like an unexpected breath of fresh air in a room one hadn't realized was stuffy. Michael Hanson makes every word count as he brings this epic science-fiction adventure to life before the mind's eye. Carol Cowan, though confined to voicing a few female characters, is fully his equal as the other half of what may be the only ensemble in the business that can make a multi-voiced performance listenable. Look out, George Lucas! You have met your match in both story concept and realization." from AudioFile. Former Library audiobook with usual marks but very clean and in very good condition. Plastic clamshell in good condition I listened to this entire audio to ensure the tapes play well...and because I love this book.
