Pp. xiv, 473; x, 495, 43 woodcuts, 32 pages inserted advertisements at end dated November 1880. Publisher’s original forest green cloth with spine lettered in gilt and with ornate gilt decorations at the top and bottom of the spine, the front and rear cloth-covered boards have blind-stamped border decorations, brown clay-coated endpapers, 8vo. This is Freeman 880; it is the second edition, revised, fourth thousand. In this work, the first issue of the second edition, Darwin presents his theory of pangenesis for the first time. Armorial bookplate of Stacey Southerden Burn on the front attached endpaper of each volume. No other ownership marks and no signs of use.

There is a faint crease to the front cover of volume 1 and minor bumps to the top rear outer corner of volume 1 and to the bottom front and rear outer corners of volume 2 (these tiny bumps are barely noticeable); the text blocks and original bindings of both volume are very bright and clean; a tight, very good copy.. Pp. viii, 411; viii, 486, 43 text woodcuts. Publisher's original blind-stamped green cloth with gilt-lettered spine, 8vo. This is the first edition, second issue of 'Variation of Animal and Plants' (Freeman 878). Imprint at base of spine in two lines on both volumes, there is single two-lines erratum at the end of the index and no errata lines in volume 2. No ads are present at the end of either volume. There are no ownership marks in this set of any kind.

Top outer corner clipped front endpaper presumably to remove a previous owner’s name, gilt on spine a little dull but fully readable, rear endpaper only with faint foxing; the text is very bright and clean with no signs of use; a tight copy in very good condition.. Pp. xvi, 300; 38 woodcuts in text. Publisher's original forest-green cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine, and stamped in blind along the outer borders of the front and rear covers, 8vo. This is Darwin's primary work on plant fertilization. Darwin was keenly interested in the morphology of orchids and how these structures enticed insects to fertilize them. This is Freeman 814; there are only eight John Murray entries in Freeman for "Fertilisation of Orchids." Far fewer copies of this Darwin title were printed by Murray compared with his other titles. Besides species that are illustrated in color photographs for the first time, this volume also contains photographs of some undescribed forms. No ownership marks.

Madras: Central Survey Office, 1875. First edition.. Some light browning to the rear (blank) side of some plates, a few wrinkles of the tissue guards, a tight and clean copy in near fine condition.. Pp. (1, title page printed in silver and gilt), 12 hand-colored photo-lithographic plates, with captions naming the snakes in Latin, English, Tamil, Telugu, Hindustani, and Canarese, all with the original tissue guards. Later brown full-grain goat-skin leather, lettered in gilt on the front cover, with the original Victorian marbled endpapers preserved inside, small folio (350 x 270 mm). This is likely the rarest book on Indian snakes ever published. The last copy recorded was sold by Christies in 2015. They report only two copies of the work could be traced to the United Kingdom. It may be that only 100 copies of the work were published. Most likely perished in the harsh southern Indian climate. The copy offered came from a collector in UK.
