SCARCE ALBUMEN PRINT OF VICTORIA BRIDGE DURING CONSTRUCTION 11-1/8 x 8 inches, Victoria Bridge from Point St. Charles, Montreal during construction, "Victoria Bridge...early in Feb. 1859" in ink manuscript on verso. Albumen photo on very thin paper, a little faded and wrinkling, some tears along folds, otherwise good condition.Quite scarce, early albumen photo of Victoria Bridge during construction. The Victoria Bridge was designed by Robert Stephenson and Alexander McKenzie Ross, and the chief engineer was James Hodges. The first bridge to span the St.Lawrence River, it was the longest in the world at the time of its construction and described as the Eighth Wonder of the World. Construction began in 1854 and the first train crossed in December 1859, with the official inauguration by the Prince of Wales in August 1860.
