Description:
1919. Soft cover. Near Fine. Undated black and white photograph, 5" x 7", of the NC-4, the Curtiss NC flying boat which Hinton piloted in the first crossing of the Atlantic by an aircraft, in May of 1919. Hinton was one of two pilots in the six-man crew. Hinton is not shown in the photo; it is a shot of the NC-4, probably from the 40s or 50s. The Washington Monument can be seen in the background, and the craft is on blocks within a fence, probably at the Smithsonian. The ambitious Hinton also made the first North America-to-South America flight, explored the arctic in a balloon, and explored the Amazon in a hydroplane. He passed away in 1981. Not a common aviation signature. Lmilit
