This work formed volume V from Jones' wider series 'Views of the Seats, mansions, castles etc'. It was followed by 'South Wales Illustrated' . A smart work. Collations for this work varies from copy to copy. There is no definitive list of plates. Each plate has accompanying text leaves explaining the location and a brief contextual history. Henry Gastineau was an English engraver, prolific in water-colours. He was particularly fond of painting costal scenery. A very smart copy of this work. Condition: In a half calf binding with paper covered boards. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and to the joints. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Partly a social register, and partly something of a Who's Who , these works, initially under the editorship of Edward Walford, made for an exhaustive guide to the British upper classes and landed gentry during the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries. Contains numerous advertisments to the front and rear of the guide. Condition: In decorative cloth binding with gilt detailing. Externally, the backstrip is repaired with tape and there is significant wear and tenderness to the joints and hinges, as well as wear to backstrip. There is also some wear and bumping to extremities and slight marking to boards. Internally, the pages are generally firmly bound, although the binding is somewhat tender in places, and the pages are largely bright and clean, aside from the usual foxing to endpages and the odd spot. There is an inkstamp to pastedown. Overall: FAIR.
