Boston: Charles Tappan, 1846. First Edition. Hardcover. Original green printed paper covered boards, brown cloth spine. Good. 190 pages. 19 x 12 cm. Scarce first edition of one of America's early books on domestic science. Owner's signature in pencil on front free end paper, dated August 1847. Although ragged condition, it can easily be restored. Rear cover detached, shaken, foxed, cloth spine heavily worn, cracked and chipped. Lacks rear blank end paper. [LOWENSTEIN 399].

A miniature book, original copyright 1848 and published then in Lowell by Dayton. An address to young women by Anna Ferguson (1778-1853) of Orange County, NY, with homilies and parables, advice on conduct for women entering society. Perfect for lounging by the river under a comfortable tree with a very fancy hat. Mild wear at corners. Mild foxing. Few minor stains. Pencil notation on presentation page: “Mary Drury by her sister Jane Drury”. AEG. [LINCOLN-LOWENSTEIN 788, 789, 819] - earlier edition. Needs dimensions.
