Description:
Houston, Texas, 1946. Oblong 4to. commercial album made by Universal Bookbindery, Inc., San Antonio, TX. Cloth covered flexible boards, screw-bound at left margin, measuring approximately 13 1/2" x 10 1/4". Single title leaf in front, plus 60 tan card leaves, each with a single black and white silver gelatin print photograph, measuring approximately 8.0" x 10.0", verso mounted loosely in slotted corners. Type written descriptions below each image. Mild handling wear to album exterior, previouos owner's name in ink to title leaf, else well preserved, prints about near fine. A stunning commercial photograph album, self-published by Clyde Waddell, former chief photographer for the Houston Press and U.S. Army Public Relations officer with the Southeast Asian command during WWII. Waddell extensively photographed Calcutta while on duty as principal cameraman for the Phoenix Magazine, a photographic weekly sponsored by the combined U.S.-British command.
