Plate 8 from the series "12 character heads". 19.5cm x 13cm on backing paper of 29cm x 22cm. Clean and tidy engraving on slightly darkened paper. laid onto heavy laid backing paper. A little marking only. Printing details to base of engraving. The backing paper has a touch of creasing and darkening to the edges. Identified, named and dated from identical copies in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Johann Christian Leopold (1699-1755) Print publisher based in Augsburg; son of Joseph Friedrich Leopold (q.v.); published mezzotints after Piazzetta; until 1760 at the earliest.
