About This Item

Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1920. First printing. Hardcover. Very Good/good. 8vo, cloth in dust jacket, book very good and bright, jacket good with some wear, spine and rear panel a bit soiled and darkened, light edgewear; rare in jacket. Burt brought a kind of feminism to her prolific career as an author of westerns. In this novel, we follow the story of Sheila Arundel, who goes West to work in a hotel "where she becomes a sort of 'good angel' to the lawless characters there, particular to her patron's drunken son. Following a brutal declaration of love from her employer, she flees to the mountains, and from then on events move steadily from thrill to thrill..." (from the dust jacket flap copy). Several of her books were made into westerns, but not this one.
