The text is illustrated with black-and-white photographs, illustrations and line drawings. Colour illustrated paperback binding with orange and peach coloured titles to the front panel and orange and white coloured titles to the back strip. In 1952 the Mycenaean script was finally deciphered, and, the Mycenaean Greek culture, people and society was finally knowable. The author was intimately involved in the deciphering of the script, and. " ... summarises the results of recent research and in doing so opens the door to a new world, Mycenaean Greece seen to the eyes of its inhabitants."  from rear panel blurb. This book was used as a text, and as such has had its covers covered in a clear contact plastic and some of the text highlighted in a yellow colour (the highlighting is starting to fade  please see photograph). Some creasing of the book corners with age toning of the text block edges. The original owners name to the top edge of the half title page. The clear contact cover has started to yellow.
