This critical biography was the first to focus on Hutchins' University of Chicago decades, and the author gives a full and fascinating account of this complex man. At the time Hutchins became President of the University of Chicago he was 30 years old, the youngest University president in the country. His most far reaching academic reform involved the undergraduate College at University of Chicago which was retooled into a novel pedagogical system built on Great Books, Socratic dialogue, comprehensive examinations and early entrance to college. 387 pages, including an index. Dust jacket is protected in an archival quality Brodart cover. Clean, fresh, tight and bright! A very nice, author signed, copy; available for immediate shipment, carefully packed in a sturdy box.
