About This Item
The lavishly illuminated manuscript Khamsa of Nizami of poems by the 12th-century Persian Nizami Ganjavi was created in the early 1590s for the Mughal Emperor Akbar of the area of Pakistan. Fine calligraphy and miniatures of the highest quality were executed by number of artists and a single scribe. The manuscript has been described as "one of the finest examples of the Indo-Muslim arts of the book". This edition of the translations of "Khosrow and Shirin", "Layla and Majnum", and "The Seven Princesses" was published on the occasion of the opening of the new Islamic Galleries of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
