The fifth division of Virtue's stupendous Universal Geography, a detailed cultural, ethnological and topographical study of the Earth that was to meant to run to 24 divisions over a number of volumes between 1878 to 1894. This division contains sections on Austria, Hungary and Germany. With detailed accounts of the various regions of each country plus demographical and economic data. Complete with maps and tissue guarded engraved plates of people and places plus illustrations within the text. Green cloth with elaborate gilt decoration. All edges gilt. 4to. (280x200mm) Occasional markings to boards. Rubbing and bumping to edges, especially tops and tails of spine with light fraying. Occasional very mild spotting within, usually to reverses of plates or tissue guards. Otherwise contents clean and binding tight. Good+
