Exquisitely illustrated featuring Ballard's underwater photography with high-quality archival material in then and now spreads. Marine artist Ken Marshall painted the Lusitania firsthand from a submarine. On May 7, 1915, a torpedo from a German submarine hit the elegant Cunard liner Lusitania. In less than 20 minutes the ship sank with the loss of 1,195 civilian lives. Ballard probed the entire length of the wreck in a tiny submarine searching for clues about the mystery of this sinking--was it carrying ammunition? Why was there a second explosion? His history-making findings are revealed in this book highlighted by hundreds of photographs, paintings and diagrams. 227 pages. 4to. 1995, Warner Books. ISBN10: 0446518514, ISBN13: 9780446518512
