He is also well known as the author of A Short History of Opera, first published in 1947.<br /> <br /> Claude V. Palisca (1921 - 2001) was an American musicologist. An internationally recognized authority on early music, especially opera of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, he was the Henry L. and Lucy G.
