About This Item
Springer, 1987-06-17. Hardcover. Like New. 9x6x1. [Interesting provenance, previously owned by Brian R. Judd.] Bound in publisher's cloth. Hardcover. Good binding and cover. Contemporary signature of Judd on verso, else unmarked. xxiv, 563 p., 24 cm.
"The Dutch scientist Hendrik Kramers (1894-1952) was one of the greatest theoretical physicists of the twentieth century,âand one of a mere handful who have made major contributions across the whole field. Physicists know his name from, among other things, the Kramers dispersion theory, the Kramers-Heisenberg dispersion formulae, the Kramers opacity formula, the Kramers degeneracy, and the Kramers-Kronig relations. Yet few people know more than the name, or recognize the full depth and range of his contributions. Kramers' remarkable and diverse work makes him at least the equal of such celebrated physicists as Fermi and Landau."
Brian R. Judd is the Gerhard H. Dieke Professor Emeritus in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore. Judd's books include Operator Techniques in Atomic Spectroscopy, published by McGraw-Hill in 1963 and reprinted by Princeton University Press in 1998, Second Quantization and Atomic Spectroscopy, published by Johns Hopkins in 1967, Topics in Atomic and Nuclear Theory (with J. P. Elliott), published by Caxton Press in 1971, and Angular Momentum Theory for Diatomic Molecules, published by Academic Press in 1975. Judd is an Honorary Fellow of Brasenose College, Oxford University, and a Fellow of the American Physical Society.
