About This Item

New York: Alfred A Knopf, 2016. Boldly signed with a black sharpie by Robert M. Gates on a Boy Scouts of America label affixed to the first blank page after the front free endpaper (his signature only, NOT personalized to anyone). Laid in is a brown leather bookmark commemorating the Thomas Monson Leadership Excellence Complex Groundbreaking Ceremony, June 15, 2016 in which Gates participated. Also laid-in is a photocopy with several examples of his signature for authentication. NEW in a NEW dust jacket. PERFECT CONDITION. NO fading, creases, chips, or tears. The jacket is protected by a removable Brodart clear-plastic sleeve. Sharp corners. Bright, shiny, clean, square and tight. Fresh and crisp -- obviously never read. "Robert Michael Gates... served as the 22nd United States secretary of defense from 2006 to 2011. He was originally appointed by president George W. Bush and was retained for service by President Barack Obama. Gates began his career serving as an officer in the United States Air Force but was quickly recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Gates served for 26 years in the CIA and the National Security Council, and was Director of Central Intelligence under President George H. W. Bush. Gates was nominated by Republican president George W. Bush as Secretary of Defense two years after the 2004 election, replacing Donald Rumsfeld. He continued to serve as Secretary of Defense in President Barack Obama's administration. He retired in 2011. Gates was presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian award, by President Obama during his retirement ceremony. Since leaving the Obama Administration, Gates was elected president of the Boy Scouts of America, served as Chancellor of the College of William & Mary, and served as a member on several corporate boards." - Wikipedia.. About About Books

About Books (Genny and Michael Winne, proprietors, formerly of Parsippany, New Jersey) has been selling rare and OP books since 1985. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines. Our inventory of over 40,000 volumes is especially strong in the specialties listed, but contains fine books in a variety of other fields as well. Because most of our books are stored in protective boxes, rather than on shelves, they cannot be viewed as a whole. If you wish to visit us to examine specific titles, please provide 24 hours notice and we will make them available for your inspection. Phone calls to (702) 750-2722 are welcome, but please, only between the hours of 8am and 10pm (west coast time).
