About This Item

Oxford, England: Oxford University Press, 1999. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Dust Jacket. 8.30 x 5.50 x 0.85 inches. "The Philosophers: Introducing Great Western Thinkers,"" edited by Ted Honderich, is a hardcover edition (1999), first printing, in Very Good- condition with a Fine/Like New dust jacket. This book offers a captivating introduction to the world of philosophy through the lives and ideas of twenty-eight of the greatest thinkers in Western civilization, ranging from Aristotle and Plato to Wittgenstein, Heidegger, and Sartre. The book remains well-preserved, with the covers in great shape and sharp corners. There is no wear at the spine ends. While it has been gently read, it is still in excellent condition. There is a small area of ink markings on pages 175-178 within the Nietzsche chapter; however, aside from this, the interior pages are clean, bright, and unmarked. Each philosopher is accompanied by a portrait, and the contributors provide lists for further reading. Additionally, the volume includes a chronological table providing valuable historical context. ""The Philosophers"" serves as an authoritative and engaging guide to the ideas of these notable philosophers throughout history, addressing significant questions related to free will, morality, and the limits of logic and reason. The book also highlights the enduring legacy and relevance of these thinkers in our time.Editorial reviews commend the quality and usefulness of the essays included in this collection, which were carefully selected from ""The Oxford Companion to Philosophy."" While libraries that already own the Companion may have access to these essays, those without it should consider adding this volume to their collection.About the Editor:Ted Honderich is Grote Professor of the Philosophy of Mind and Logic at University College London, with teaching experience at Yale University and the City College of New York. He is known for his work in philosophy of mind and logic and has authored several publications, including ""How Free Are You?"" He is also the editor of the acclaimed ""Oxford Companion to Philosophy.""If you would like more information or additional pictures of the book, please do not hesitate to contact me.
