A Latin didactic poem in five books, in which the ancient Roman astrologer Marcus Manilius discusses celestial phenomena and signs of the zodiac. Per the jacket flap, Manilius ". ..is the author of the earliest treatise on astrology we possesss." The Latin text is presented side-by-side with the English translation of G. P. Goold, with his frequent footnotes. Includes several illustrations (including an early frontis map of the Eastern Hemisphere as Manilius knew it) as well as Goold's lengthy introduction. Entry 469 in the Loeb Classical Library series, edited by Jeffrey Henderson. --- In full red cloth-covered boards with publisher's device to cover, titling and classical Greek key decorations to spine; all in gilt.
