Marvelous book! A wonderful collection of photos, captions, and data. Very well written by author John M. Mehrtens. My son, then age 7, checked this book out time and time again. He read just "the photos" and the captions, at first, but I, reading/looking at pictures, with him, then later, when he read the book, and shared some of the many things he learned from it with me. Through this process, actually from the moment of sharing HIS excitement and love of snakes (ants, nature), and then learned to LOVE SNAKES. The more one learns about a subject from such a book, the more likely any fears will disappear (but not caution regarding the venomous ones, rather a healthy respect), and love of the animal takes its place. THIS is such a book.
