1939 Stated First Edition. Dutton. First in a series of three.124 pages. Royal8vo. Illustrated by Mary Greenwalt. Van Loon letter on backflap. Book in good condition with red, white and black illustra ted paper over cardboard boards. Solid red cloth spine with black lettering. Front shows Schubert as child with schoolmates in their uniforms. Minor edge wear however it looks like a little mousie was hungary and nibbled at rear board bottom by spine and a little nibble at the bottom corners. Rear board is tan with blue illustration of young gypsies (? ) dancing. Book is clean and tight except for light natural page browning. Page edges on outside bottom have a discoloration. Music selectionsof several of his works such as March Militaire, waltz, Erlking, etc. DJ illustration matches boards. C orreponding DJ missing to mousie's lunch. Small piece missing across spine top. DJ is browned with some repaired tears and a bit brittle. ; Order number is SV14-14AA. .
