About This Item

London England: Mowbray, 1991. Hardback. First Edition. Message to previous owner to title page. Slightly sunned spine to D/J. Price clipped to D/J. Many Anglican names were suggested to Archbishop Runcie as possible authors of this book but he himself proposed a Roman Catholic whom he had never met. Adrian Hastings fully justified this choice by producing a book which provides a sensitive and perceptive assessment of the Archbishop's time at Canterbury. The book rapidly surveys Robert Runcie's background, but the main focus is on the Canterbury years. The Archbishop is a leading figure in world affairs, as well as having a major role to play in public life in Britain. He must also lead a Church which contains increasingly diverse elements. The author shows how Robert Runcie has dealt with this superhuman task, bringing his unique personality to bear on the position which has challenged archbishops since the sixth century. Illustrated. 221 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.) . First Edition. Cloth. Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardback.
