Anwar Sadat founded the Free Officers organization in the army to drive out the British from Egypt and establish self-rule. As the leader of the organization, he was jailed twice and thus achieved a reputation as a patriot among the Egyptian people. When in jail Abdel Nasser took over the Free Officers organization. Anwar's experiences in jail at achieving spiritual liberation are written in the book. I felt that he had not detailed this part that well. After Anwar and Abdel Nasser obtained freedom for Egypt in a bloodless revolution the book talks about his efforts to rebuild Egypt. He felt that for any development to occur, Egypt must make peace with Israel; thus, he became the first Arab leader to make peace with Israel.
