Includes chapters on Moran's aesthetic theory and background, landscape as metaphor, the Hayden geological survey of the territories (Yellowstone), the Northern Pacific Railroad, the publishing industry, the John Wesley Powell expedition (Grand Canyon), and the Mountain of the Holy Cross (Colorado).
