About This Item

New York: Knopf , 2014. First edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/near fine. Later printing (6) As New in all respects, unread. This long awaited memoir was published on January 14, 2014. This is a sixth printing of January, 2014. A remarkable follow-up to his 1996 first book: From the Shadows: The Ultimate Insider's Story of Five Presidents and How They Won the Cold War. Duty tells a powerful and deeply personal story that allows us an unprecedented look at two administrations and the wars that have defined them. Gates alternately criticizes and praises President Obama's military leadership, writing, "I never doubted [his] support for the troops, only his support for their mission [in Afghanistan]", and "I was very proud to work for a president who had made one of the most courageous decisions I had ever witnessed in the White House [referring to the raid against Osama bin Laden]." Most items ship with free delivery confirmation, electronic tracking and jacket protectors (generally over $10.00) if applicable. Clean recycled packing material will be used when possible.
