About This Item

Stuttgart et al.: United Bible Societies, 1975 WYSIWYG pricing--no added shipping charge for standard shipping within USA. Flexible maroon vinyl covers, gilt titles on front board & spine, endpaper maps, ribbon bookmark bound in, lxii, 928 pp, notes, bibliography, quotation index, map index. Some slight wear, owner's name & date on preliminary blank. The United Bible Societies, originally consisting of the American Bible Society, the National Bible Society of Scotland, and the Württemberg Bible Society, later joined by the Netherlands Bible Society, the British & Foreign Bible Society, and the Pontifical Biblical Institute, set out to produce a version of the New Testament in the original Greek that would be adapted to the needs of translators. According to the preface, it provides "a critical apparatus restricted for the most part to variant readings significant for translators or necessary for the establishing of the text; an indication of the relative degree of certainty for each variant adopted as the text; a full citation of representative evidence for each variant selected; and a second apparatus giving meaningful differences in punctuation." Both previous critical editions and examination of surviving manuscripts were used in establishing the text, and spelling was standardized. There are about 500 changes in the text from the second edition with corresponding changes in the critical apparatus. Shipping weight 2 lbs.. 3rd Ed. . VG/No dj. 19 X 13½ cm.
