First published as Vol 2 of Fornander's "An Account of the Polynesian Race". This is a 2005 4th printing of the 1996 reprint of that classic history of the Hawaiian people which brings to life the legends and historical tales of the ancient people during fifteen centuries following the first settlement of the Hawaiian Islands. Drawing on oral traditions, Judge Fornander's history follows the lives of the Island's great historic chiefs portraying life in the Islands before the arrival of Captain James Cook. Abraham Fornander was a Swedish immigrant to the islands who lived in Hawaii from 1843 to his death in 1887. He did many, many different things during those years, and one of them was a three-year effort, with the assistance of Native Hawaiian researchers, compiling a most extensive collection of 19th century oral materials, including sayings, prayers, legends, historical tales, genealogies, and creation myths. 430 pages indexed. 4.25 x 7 inches. 2005, Mutual Publishing, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA
