Chaney, CBE, AFC, Lord Mayor of Perth, acknowledgements, abbreviations and conversion table, bibliography, index and photographic sources. Map illustrated endpapers, both different, front endpaper: – showing the first colonisation of Perth and its environs, rear endpaper: – showing a plan of Perth 1871-72. The text is illustrated with black-and-white contemporary photographs, illustrations and reproductions of documents. Also included is the occasional coloured illustration. Tan coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured title to the back strip. Colorised photographic dustwrapper with black and brown coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Sepia toned photograph of author to the rear fold over panel. "The People of Perth: A Social History of Western Australia's Capital City describes the experiences of several generations of migrant settlers in Swan River from 1829 onwards. It shows the people of all classes at work and at play, buying and selling, praying, going to school, raising families, founding institutions, making laws, and engaging in municipal and colonial politics." -- from the front fold over panel blurb. Minor rubbing to the book corners but there is a stain to the top left hand corner of the front panel – please see photograph. Prize plate affixed to the page following the free front endpaper.
