Cover has some wear and soiling. The interviews collected in this volume are printed from edited typescripts prepared by the Editor from the original tapes. While the quality of the typescripts may vary, every effort had been made to reproduce the best copy available. Typically each section has a vita of the subject, summary and interview text. There are publications of Paul Harteck listed and a reprinted article. Some sections have introductions related to interview substance. The interview with Heisenberg was held on August 29, 1967. The interview with Paul Harteck was held on July 6, 1967. The interview with Lew Kowarski was held on March 16, 1970. The interview with General Leslie Groves was held on November 7, 1967. The interview is Aristid von Grosse was held on October 21, 1970. The interview with C. E. Larson et a. was held on December 14, 1967. The interviews represent part of an effort to enhance the quality of courses on technological innovation, primarily for students at Dartmouth College. The interviews have the central theme of uranium fission and the complementary theme of nuclear technology. Paul Harteck received his foundation in nuclear physics under Lord Rutherford and became one of Heisenberg's group of uranium scientists. Lew Kowarski was a Russian-French engineer-scientist and with von Halban was one of two foreign-born members of the French nuclear team lead by Joliot-Curie. Aristid von Grosse was the first to isolate the radioactive protoactinium in the laboratory of Otto Hahn, the discoverer of nuclear fission. Clarence E. Larson handled the unprecedented chemistry of Ernest Lawrence's electromagnetic process for separating U-235 from U-238 at Oak Ridge. Dr. Snell, Dr. Arnold and Mr. Bahler worked with Dr. Larson at Oak Ridge.
