About This Item

Phantom ghost of Residual glue from pocket removal, BLEP, else content appears as unread & unblemished with red cloth covered boards and vinyl cover displaying no significant surface/edge wear, as shown.

The famed pianist recounts his childhood in Poland and Germany and start of his music career. Note: "Arthur" was the pianist's preferred version of his name in English; " Artur" was used by his promoter and in Slavic language Artur Rubinstein was one of the great concert pianists of the 20th century, and is still considered by many one of the finest interpreters of Chopin. To this day, my favorite recording of Beethoven's 4th Piano Concerto is one of Rubinstein's from the late 1940s. This autobiography describes Rubinstein's life in Lodz, Poland, which in 1887 was part of the Russian Empire. A child prodigy, he and his family moved to Berlin where he studied with Joseph Joachim (among others), who was a great friend of, and collaborator with, Johannes Brahms. This volume carries the story of Rubinstein's life down to 1917 and his emigration to England.
