Grosset and Dunlap hard cover with dust jacket, 1927 edition but probably 1959 or 1960 printing, Hardy Boys #3, 212 pages, cover art by A. O. Scott. 12mo (5.25"" x 7.5"") The Secret of the Old Mill (Hardy Boys #3) by Leslie McFarlane, writing as Franklin W. Dixon. Hardy Boys titles on the front flap go to 38: The Mystery At Devil's Paw, published in 1959. Tom Swift Jr. titles on the rear go to 14: Tom Swift and His Electronic Retroscope, published in 1959. This is the original 25 chapter text: The Hardy Boys break up a counterfeiting ring centered at an old mill on the outskirts of Bayport. In 1962 the story was drastically altered and the text shortened to 20 chapters.

Determined to learn the secret of the old mill, Frank and Joe employ a clever use to gain entrance and become trapped. There they unravel two mysteries, one involving a counterfeiting case and the other, a national security case their father is working on
