Three volumes of beautifully detailed engravings of subjects related to the life and works of Romantic poet Lord Byron, accompanied by three further volumes of explanatory notes. Three volumes of engraved plates concerning subjects associated with the life and work of the celebrated poet. Accompanied by three volumes of 'original and selected information on the subjects of the engravings' from English painter, writer and inventor William Brockedon. The first edition of this work to feature both the text and plates. With three volumes of Plates and three Letter Press volumes. With engraved title page and frontispiece portrait to Letter Press volume III. With engraved title page to Plates volume I and II. Collated, with thirty plates to volume I, eleven missing. With thirty-four plates to volume II, eight missing. With thirty-three plates to volume III. Volume III does not have a contents page, and so missing plates, if any, cannot be identified. The work of English engraver William Finden. In Finden's later life, in co-operation with his brother Edward Francis Finden, he undertook the publication as well as the production of various galleries of engravings. The first of these was this work, a series of landscape and portrait illustrations to the life and works of Byron, appearing in 1833 and following years.With plates depicting such subjects as Ada Lovelace, the Acropolis, Villa Diodati, Matthew Lewis and Percy Shelley. In the original half calf binding, with paper covered boards. With one spine label missing. Significant bumping to back strip heads and tails, resulting in loss of leather to tail of Letter Press vol II. Significant losses to paper covered boards to each volume, with paper covering entirely absent from Letter Press vol III. Rubbing to each joint, with tail of front joint to plate vols I, II and III starting but holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Closed tear to tile page of Letter Press vol I. Pages generally clean and bright, with the odd tidemark to plates of vol III. Good Only
