His interest in architecture, urban planning and in New York City evolved from his first career, as a sculptor. He holds a B.A. in History, magna cum laude, from Yale University, where he also took courses in the art school. He then moved to New York City to study sculpture full-time at the NY Studio School in Greenwich Village.
