Very first book (out of 30 in the series) in the third iteration from the 1950s-1960s (beige picture covers) of this classic YA girls series featuring the sleuthing sister pair Louise & Jean Dana. Orig. published in 1934, it maintains the original text, with flashlight endpapers, plain frontis, 215 pages, listing to book #2 on back cover, to DG#27 & ND#42 in front matter. With pictorial paper-covered boards, this hardcover 12mo is in VG condition: very clean, binding strong with a slight rightward lean. Both hinges secure, pages creamy white, with very mild tanning to edges. Old grease pencil price to ffep. Moderate rubbing to extremities,slightly heavier at all corners & spine tips. Synopsis

By the Light of the Study Lamp is the first book in The Dana Girls detective series, originally produced by the Stratemeyer Syndicate. It was issued in 1934, as part of a three-volume release in order to test the market for the series. Louise and Jean Dana, orphaned sisters, receive the gift of an antique study lamp as a parcel from their Uncle Ned Dana, skipper of the SS Balaska, as they are packing to return to their school for a second year.
