About This Item

This book is new, never read, no wear to covers, no markings on inner pages, spine intact no creases. After almost 40 years of active diving, I have followed many an underwater treasure trail. In 1982, for example I even visited one of the sites covered by this book and, armed with a brand new underwater metal detector set off with great hopes. Just as soon as I hit the seabed that piece of equipment started sounding as though I was sitting on top of a veritable hoard of valuable metal. Unfortunately, it was responding to the iron content of the rock itself and we all came home empty-handed. Elsewhere, I have found cannon and cannon balls in large quantities – but never anything of value. That, however, has never stopped me from reading of the exploits of those who have been successful and, as such works go, this is one of the better books on the subject. Lavishly illustrated from beginning to end, this work remains as relevant today as it did when first published in 1993. The various chapters on; The classical world, Scandinavian shipwrecks, Age of Discovery, Spanish Galleons, Armada of 1588, Manila Galleons, Bermuda, East Indiamen, Privateers, Pirates & M Taking the Spanish Armada as a good example of what to expect, not only do we have a potted history of the fateful event but the entire detail is set into the correct and appropriate historical context. As much as I thought I knew about this time of history, I was unaware of the long-term consequences of so many vessels lost to Spain… Elsewhere there is much that is new to me and I am quite certain I will be returning to this work time and again as my own research continues.utineers, Shipwreck in waiting and finally Deep water shipwrecks are each packed with the relevant background and history essential to understanding the subject. A fascinating read and a book which will bne very much appreciated by all those with an interest in treasures." Ned Middleton "Sir Robert F. Marx (December 8, 1936 – July 4, 2019)[1] was an American pioneer in scuba diving, a prolific author, and was best known for his work with marine archeology. Over his career, he discovered over 5000 shipwrecks in over 60 countries[citation needed]. Although some accused him of treasure hunting, fellow archeologist E. Lee Spence described Marx as the "true father of underwater archaeology".[2] Marx also helped write UNESCO legislation regarding shipwrecks." Wikipedia

Welcome to Ohkwaho Books and Fine Art. We are a small family-run, independent book-seller looking to share our passion for the written word with the world. We specialize in historical fiction, non-fiction and children's fiction. Above all we value integrity and transparency and are looking for ways to connect with other bibliophiles. Our resident artist is a proudly Metis youth, working to regain connection with his Metis heritage, and much of his passion for social justice and reconciliation may be envisioned within his art. We offer a wide variety of books for sale, both gently used and new. We are also very thrilled to announce availability of a limited number of prints and original artwork by Baz.
