London: Printed for the Author. Very Good. 1828. 1st. Hardcover. Rubbing to the corners and edges, and lightly on the boards - see image. Bookplate on inside front board. Some plates are detached but all present. Foxing on some pages. A 2" arched faint dampstain to the lower gutter, but does not affect the integrity of the book nor the text or images. ; The author's 19th-century travelers detailed guide through the Alps, with 96 fine steel-engraved plates of Alpine scenery and 13 maps (one double-page) , bound in half leather with marbled boards. This pictorial work depicts various stages along 12 routes of passage through the Alps, each documented by eight engravings of mountain terrain after Brockedon, an accompanying description of features and a map. A double-page map of all the routes appears at the rear of Volume II. Volume I documents Little Saint Bernard, Mont Genèvre, Mont Cenis, Mont Saint Gothard, Great Saint Bernard, and Monte Stelvio. Volume II treats Cornice, Grimsel and Gries, Bernardin and Splugen, Brenner, Tende and Argentière, and Simplon. All edges gilt. Five raised bands. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall .
