Synopsis

Carolyn Mackler is the author of the acclaimed young adult novel LOVE AND OTHER FOUR-LETTER WORDS, which was an American Library Association Quick Pick for Reluctant Young Adult Readers and an International Reading Association Young Adult Choice. Her fiction and nonfiction have appeared in numerous publications, including SEVENTEEN, GIRLS' LIFE, TEEN PEOPLE, and GLAMOUR. Of THE EARTH, MY BUTT, AND OTHER BIG ROUND THINGS, she says, "So many of us feel like we don’t quite fit in with the rest of the world, that we’re inferior to others in some way. But things happen. Bad things happen. And many of us end up learning the difficult but important lesson that the people we idolize may not be all they’re cracked up to be. And guess what? We’re not so bad after all!"

This book is literally my whole life. I've already read it a total of 9 times in the last month. I feel like reading this book brings me into a whole other dimension. Virginia Shreves is this beautiful outstanding person with problems that everybody faces in everyday life. Self confidence issues, family issues, drama. In your all around normal teenage book, the main character is this made up character with issues. Like Virginia. The difference with this is she gives off this REAL person vibe. It's a yes from me.
On Jun 20 2008, BayShore Books LLC said:
Virginia Shreves just doesn’t measure up. She doesn’t fit in with the pencil thin popular girls and certainly not with her picture perfect family. Then she realizes everyone else may not be as perfect as they seem. Rather than change herself to fit the perfect mold that society has created, she discovers that she only needs to learn to accept herself. “The Earth, My Butt, & Other Big Round Things” is a realistic coming-of-age story with the humor and spunk today’s teens can relate to.
