In original brown half-leather, brown cloth-covered boards, stamped in gold on fronts, titles and pictorial stamps on spines in gilt, all edges marbled; marbled endpapers; vol. I: xii, 366pp; vol. II: x, 521pp; vol. III: clxxxvi, [ii], 375pp; with engraved frontispiece, title page, and 43 plates on inserted leaves in vol. I, engraved frontispieces in vols. II and III, and extensive in-text wood engravings throughout. Unfaded, sound, and clean, with minor rubbing and a few insignificant marks and bumps to boards: around Near Fine.
A beautiful set of this lavish catalogue of the "arts and industries exhibited" at the 1876 Centennial Exposition, the first world's fair to be held in the United States. Nearly 10 million visitors attended this demonstration of American industrial prowess.
