About This Item

Sydney: Kangaroo Press, 1986. Hardback small octavo, dustjacket, very good condition (in very good dustjacket), black & white photos & drawings, minor edgewear, old price marks. 176 pp. About a demented Irishman, Henry James O’Farrell, who shot and injured Prince Alfred in Sydney in 1868. This episode was used by the unscrupulous politician Henry Parkes for his own political gain by fanning sectarian bigotry about an alleged Irish Catholic or Fenian plot. The Fenians were an Irish revolutionary nationalist brotherhood seeking an independent Irish state.
