Spine sunned with some wear, label has chip to top edge, the letter "y" of My is missing. Light browning to page edges and slight off-setting from illustrations. Eva Jessye received the international distinction of being the first African American to be a professional choral conductor. As such she worked with Gerturde Stein and Virgil Thomson on Stein's "Four Saints in Three Acts," and in 1935 with George Gershwin on "Porgy and Bess." In this capacity she continued to work throughout her life as well as being an adamant, lifelong supporter of civil rights. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 81 pp .
