Philadelphia. Gebbie & Barrie. [1876]. Hardcover. 4to. 29cm, in 3 volumes, xii,366 & x,521 & clxxxvi,375pp., with 3 engraved frontis plates, 32 copper & steel engraved plates, and over 800 illustrations from wood engravings, in contemporary half black morocco, gilt ruled raised bands, gilt titles & device decorations in the panels, green cloth boards, marbled endpapers, the free flies are all very acidic, a very good set (). ~ A massive catalogue to accompany the Centennial International Exhibition held in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia to celebrate the 100th anniversary of American Independence. Held from May to November, 1876, the Exhibition was credited with over 10 million visitors. This extensively illustrated set displays the magnificence of the Exhibition with the stress on technology and industry. Volume 3 was written by American engineer, John M. Wilson, responsible for the building of the main exhibition building.
