Brother Cadfael's 20th outing in which he tries to rescue his son, held prisoner when his liege changed his allegiance from Empress Maud to that of King Stephen. There is a planned meeting of the two warring parties to broker a peace – but powerful interests do not necessarily want peace and this can turn into violence and murder .... Rubbing and softening of the back strip edges and rubbing of the book corners. Tanning of the text block edges and lighter tanning of the pages.
